Wheat Ridge Area Midget Football would
like to welcome the new High school
coach, Guy Thurston.
Coaching Experience: Thurston is in his fourth year of coaching at Bear Creek after a four-year stint as head coach at Standley Lake High School. Prior to coaching at Standley Lake, Thurston coached three years at Bear Creek High School ('92-'95), two years at Fruita Monument High School ('90-'92), and five years at Arvada West High School ('84-'90).
Education: Thurston graduated from Arvada West High School in 1979. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for two years, and then transferred to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He was on the Dean's Honor Roll and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1984. Thurston is currently working on his master's degree in educational technology at Lesley University.
Athletic Participation: Thurston participated in both football and track at Arvada West High School. He was All-Conference, All-State, and All-America in football, playing in the 1979 All-State Football Game. He threw the shot put and discus in track, placing third in state in the discus. Thurston attended college on a full athletic scholarship in football, lettering all four years and earning All-Conference Honors. His SMU teams won two Southwest Conference Championships, and he played in both the Cotton and Sun Bowls. Thurston signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos in 1984.
Personal: Thurston is single and enjoys reading and working with computers.
