"Let Them Play"
They come to the fields
with their friends to play
a game called football
let's show them the right way
condition and teach them
fundamentals a must
but remember they're Fragile
and Dreams can be Crushed
they come to have Fun
find Glory and Fame
give them courage, honor and support
but remember it's all just a game.
"LET THEM PLAY"
The smell of sweat
the mud and the dirt
the whisper, "Come on - Get up!"
and "Please, don't let him be hurt"
it's repeat after me: "I can - I can - I can"
and he did.
It's overhearing proud words,
"That was my kid!"
The smell of freshly mowed grass
on a bright sunny day
the sound "Hey Ref - Do you need glasses?"
Words I know I should not say!
"LET THEM PLAY"
On the fields they're "IRONMEN"
to let loose and go wild
off the fields let's stress "Gentlemen"
but all the while just a child
to win graciously
with dignity we lose
because it's just a game
and young egos can be bruised!
They'll give you everything they've got
play with "Heart and Soul"
But, I beg you "Never Forget"
They're just kids with
Big Dreams and High Goals!
